FIA Formula E championship: Renault to be title sponsor of e.dams-Renault

Renault, a pioneer in the world of electric vehicles and an active participant in motorsport ever since the brand was founded, was named last year as an official technical partner of the FIA Formula E Championship. With the competition’s inaugural race in Beijing, China, in September, 2014, looming fast, the French carmaker has announced that is to step up its involvement in the new series in the form of backing for e.dams.

Infiniti Decherd Powertrain Plant begins assembly of 2.0L turbo engines for Infiniti Q50 and Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Infiniti began assembly, on June 26, at the Infiniti Decherd Powertrain Plant, a collaboration between the Renault-Nissan Alliance and Daimler AG. The first engine to be assembled at the all-new facility is a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline 4-cylinder developed by Daimler. The engines will initially be used in European versions of the Infiniti Q50 sports sedan and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class assembled in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Renault expands in Malaysia with Fluence production deal

As part of its growth strategy in Southeast Asia, Renault has signed an agreement to produce the Fluence in Malaysia with partner Tan Chong Motors. The company will also be strengthening its distribution network throughout the country.

As part of its long-standing commitment to recycling car parts and materials, Renault recently organized a visit of the INDRA dismantling center in France with environmental partner Ellen MacArthur. Famed for her exploits as a trans-global yachtswoman, Ellen MacArthur has worked with Renault since 2007 to promote the circular economy – an economic model whereby resources are continually reused rather than discarded or wasted.

On Jan. 24, Renault-Nissan Alliance Chairman and CEO Carlos Ghosn took part in a World Economic Forum panel discussion in Davos, Switzerland, entitled “Next Steps for Emerging Economies.”
 
The panel discussion focused on the robustness of the drivers of emerging-market growth given the continued global uncertainty.

British Gas launches UK's largest ever electric commercial vehicle pilot with Nissan e-NV200

British Gas has launched the UK’s largest ever electric commercial vehicle pilot with 28 Nissan e-NV200 vans. The nationwide pilot will last for six months and will assess how the vans perform in winter conditions under typical British Gas home services usage patterns. 

With 13,000 home services vans, British Gas’ fleet is one of the largest in the UK. The e-NV200 is Nissan’s second electric model, after the multi-award winning compact hatchback LEAF, and will go on sale next year.

Renault-Nissan Chairman and CEO Carlos Ghosn and Daimler AG CEO Dieter Zetsche held a briefing on Sept. 11 at the Frankfurt motor show to update the media on the progress of their companies’ three-and-a-half year strategic partnership.
 
Ghosn said that the partnership, which began in April 2010 to increase economies of scale for all three companies, has expanded to the point where ‘it is part of our corporate DNA’.
