The sound of silence

Some weeks ago I told you about the sound of EVs and the growing concern regarding quiet cars and pedestrians safety. In 2007, Nissan started real world field research in collaboration with universities and institutions to develop a new type of audio visibility for pedestrians, and particularly for those visually impaired and young children.

The challenge is to have a non-intrusive sound for the driver and passengers (cabin silence is one of the main EV benefits) and not adding noise pollution for neighborhood communities. Here’s Nissan’s proposal for a unique sound with a distinctive frequency signature. Further work will be done with legislators around the globe as they shape up their EV strategies.
